The Breckenridge Lane Home Depot store in Louisville (KY) recently began showcasing a Fire Rock outdoor fireplace.

The Mountain Stone you see on the exterior of the fireplace unit is also available in that location.

Grey Southern Ledge was selected for this installation, which was done by Michael Gray of Stone Creations.

The fireplace is a 36″ Fire Rock Garden unit and we also installed 22′ X 22″ Windsor Grey Hearthstones from Mountain Stone Products.

Mountain Stone products are currently offered in selected regional Home Depot markets and are now adding the Fire Rock fireplace.

The fireplace unit you see pictured above is intended to be used outside and can be veneered with brick or stone.

You can also add firewood boxes, built-in grills and additional chimney height, along with a few other features.

Fire Rock specializes in a pre-engineered masonry fireplace system suitable for indoor or outdoor fireplaces.

Fire Rock products utilize volcanic pumice and calcium aluminates cements to form refractory components that reflect heat back into the home.

Fire Rock products install in a fraction of the time it used to take to build a fireplace.

The components are designed to ensure proper draw on every firebox.

The Fire Rock system is American made, patented, and tested to UL standards.

As we begin a series of articles/posts about outdoor fireplaces, we want to start with a few things that you absolutely must consider before you begin an outdoor fireplace project.

In case you missed it, we had another post about a Fire Rock Outdoor Fireplace that we previously published.

Today, we’ll give you a few things to consider in the planning stage :

1) Porches and outdoor fireplaces can cohabitate. But you must remember that they give off sparks and can ignite trees, shrubs and surrounding building materials. Make clearance an important part of your planning and never vent your outdoor fireplace into a tree canopy. Safety over aesthetics is a wise motto.
2) Building codes and building permits vary widely from area to area. Check first to make sure you’re allowed to build an outdoor fireplace on your property. Homeowners associations and subdivision regulations are a great place to start.

3) Prefabricated metal fireboxes will rust over time. Masonry components are preferrable and will easily outlast metal components. Masonry will also offer easier maintainance.

4) New technologies, such as Fire Rock’s pre-engineered fireplace system makes masonry fireplaces quicker and even more affordable.

Fire Rock’s units can only be assembled one way and they’re made up of masonry materials.

Most homeowners with an average handyman’s skills can assemble the Fire Rock fireplace and then cover the exterior with brick or Mountain Stone.
